The concept of youth subculture

Of course, it is shock to the parents if they find their child wore the black leather suit and big colorful hair-do. Anyway, it is not the worse thing you could see. The matter is that it is the outer display of the inner changes. As it is used to think, the changes are good. But let's try to understand them from within by learning the concept of the subcultures.

Active social position means that a young person is in the contradiction with the official social system. He/she wants to change the world to the best. The young people possess so strong desire to do everything possible in the new life position, so, active life position is imagined like the opposite power to the official way of life. It is an opposition to the class culture as well. The meaning of their position is to present the set of certain style elements outside those which are proposed by parents, school, or work. Young people are easier to distinguish if they belong to some subcultural group by their behavior and way of living. They use the symbolic elements which make them different from the restraints of class, education or work. Subcultures are the compromise between two contradictory opposite ideas. One of them is the desire to be different. Another one is to create an identity within some group with its hierarchy, way of coping with the official rules, accepted organization, own values and norms, language to specify the things around them and symbolic things. A key in subcultures is similar perspectives which are shared by every member of the group. Sometimes they have own channels of communication. Mostly, they possess unique style in clothes. Subordination is possible, but not requirable. And surely, one of the features is an ability to leave the group when the time comes.
